Bengali, also known as Bangla, is primarily spoken in Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the most widely spoken language in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal and is also spoken by significant populations in other Indian states. The majority of Bengali speakers, over 150 million, reside in Bangladesh, where it is the national language. In India, it is the second most widely spoken language after Hindi. Additionally, there are substantial Bengali-speaking communities in other countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, the Middle East, and Australia.
Bengali is spoken by more than 210 million people worldwide as a first or second language. About 100 million Bengali speakers are in Bangladesh, and approximately 85 million in India, making it one of the most spoken languages globally.
