Medical Graduate Translations
Are you a physician or other medical interested in moving to the US for work? If so, you will need to go through a process in order to validate your degree in order to practice in the United States. The organization before which your documents must be submitted is called the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). You must submit your documents (diploma and transcripts, etc.) to them in order to take the USMLE, and said documents documents must be translated to English by a certified translation company such as Idiomatic Translations. In that case, what do you need in order to submit your medical documents to the ECFMG?
The translation must be a word-for-word translation of the source document. An abstract or summary translation will not be acceptable.
The translation must be prepared from the original document or a photocopy of the original document. A copy or transcribed version of the original is not valid.
The translation must be done by a government official, medical school official or a professional translation company.
The translation must include a statement from the entity performing it declaring that the translation is accurate and correct. The ECFMG recommended statement is: "I [Name] certify that the word-for-word translation is correct".
The translation must be signed and include the name of either the translator or the representative of the entity performing the tranlsation.
The translation must appear on letterhead, and if the letterhead is from a professional translation service, must identify the company as a professional translation services company.
Even if the applicant is competent in the original and source language, the translation cannot be done by him or her.
